What is the Bottom's Up Leash? The Bottom's Up Leash helps you help your dysplastic, arthritic, post-surgical, or otherwise disabled dog move more comfortably and safely. The leash works by supporting a portion of the dogs hind legs while they up/down stairs. Unlike a towel under the belly, our product allows your dog to eliminate and keeps you from having to stoop over. For quick cleanup, remove only the padded neoprene sleeves and wash with soap and water.

What inspired this product? The inspiration for this dog harness, was a Sheep Dog named "Watson" who began suffering from arthritis and hip dysplasia when he was 15 years old.
Are there different sizes? The leash/harness is adjustable in size and will fit any dog between 15 and 135 pounds. One size fits all.
The Inspiration ... How this product was born The Bottom's Up Leash was born out of a labor of love. "Watson," a 17 year old SheepDog was afflicted with dog arthritis when he was 15. We tried putting a towel under his belly and eventually started taking pant belts and looping them together as to form a carrying support system. Every time Watson went for a walk it was a major chore for us all. The stress level of taking a walk with Watson in this condition was so evident, but the prospect of putting him down never entered our thoughts. Everytime he had to go to the bathroom it was very difficult and pet owners were realizing that he was compromising his own dignity.
Something had to be done in order to save our sanity and Watson's. A show on rock climbing inspired the concept of lifting a portion of the weight off of Watson's hind-quarters using a harness-like device. Three dog leashes from the pet store were sewed together and a brand new type of dog leash (dog harness) was born.
As Watson was walked with the prototype, the amount of people who stopped and asked where they could get my leash made us realize that so many pets are afflicted by this horrible condition. Watson's death left a legacy that will hopefully carry on longer and help more pets. We are certain that this dog leash will alleviate so much stress in you and your pet and let your dog live a very productive life.
The Bottom's Up Leash is a quality, 100% nylon, supportive rear end dog harness (dog leash) designed to assist animals with broken bones, arthritis, hip dysplasia, or any other skeletal or muscular problems. It allows the animal to perform bodily functions (urinate and defecate) unencumbered, while being supported by a person who lifts a portion of the animal's weight at a 90-degree angle from the top of the back, in front of the tail area. It works by taking the animal's weight off its hind legs while you walk your dog from the rear. The leash price is USD $34.95, (plus shipping and sales tax where applicable).
Because the straps have a clearance in design off of the animal's back, the pressure is distributed under the center of its hind legs. This gives the most complete support of the rear hips and upper rear legs. By lifting slightly on the leash, the pet owner can control the amount of weight that is being placed on the animal's hind legs. The animal will still be going through the walking motion and will still be applying pressure on its legs, so the leash acts as an effective therapeutic device.
This leash is adjustable in size (one-size-fits-all) and has been used for dogs as heavy as 135 pounds and as small as Dachshund's and Lhasa Apso's. The Sheepy Sleeves are soft, padded sleeves which fit over the leg loops on the leash to add to the overall comfort. The sleeves are washable and are made of 100% Neoprene. This leash will not chafe your dog!
What a few customers have to say about the Bottom's Up Leash
"Dr. Knight:I apologize for being so slow in getting this information to you. When I brought Jill in to see you recently, I told you about a marvelous leash that had made a tremendous difference to me in helping her up the stairs. Here is the website for information on this GREAT product: Http://www.bottomsupleash.com Their website says that they only sell directly to people and through veterinarians. I really urge you to stock this in your retail area and recommend it to your patients. It required only about three "tries" before Jill was comfortable in using this. And now, every night when I bring the leash to her, she wags her tail when she sees it, and is happy to get it on before going up the long flight of stairs to the 2nd floor to go to sleep by my bed. It's really the ONLY way I could get her upstairs any longer -- she is too big for me to carry. If a 14-year-old golden retreiver can adjust that quickly and be grateful for its help, it is surely a miracle product! It has given her confidence and solved a huge problem for me." S. Gilbert - Maryland
"Thanks for your prompt reply. You really have a unique and needed product. Good Luck with your business and again thanks for your product and prompt service." James O. - Chandler, AZ
"The dog harness that is offered by your company is super. My dog has arthritis and hip dysplasia and this has certaily helped her a bunch. Thanks for the prompt delivery and best of luck."

"From the minute I received my leash, my 12 year old Wheaton Terrier Max, has been running.
My dog has Degenerative Mylopathy. His back legs have slowly become paralyzed. I am 5'1", my dog weighs 47lbs, and I could not get him around. I tried every product on the market, I spent triple the money on products. My male dog hated All of them, and urinated on them each time. This leash has saved my arms and back and given Max, a "New leash on Life!" He is only limited by how fast I can go! It gives him freedom to be a dog! I am not constantly, washing the leash and he gets in and out of it in seconds. I truly, do not know what I would do , without it. I am so thankful I found this leash, and I am always reccommending it, to people who see us walking. All my vets have been amazed by this leash. I cannot say enough about it. Thank you!" Hope Morris - Marina Del Rey, CA
"Wish I had a digital camera to show you a "before and after" photo of Cynthia. This dog leash has been a true life saver. The slippery ice and snow was a nightmare for Cynthia and myslef, but now I have a great way to support her hind legs as she does her business. The hip dysplsia and arthritis have been horrible, but this harness has given her a much better life. Congrats on your dog leash product and on running a wonderful business for senior animals."

... A PARTIAL LIST...
"We are sending some photos as promised of our beloved Shepard Cody. We just returned from a few days on Cape Cod and took some recent photos of Cody wearing your "Bottom's Up Leash." We are so grateful to you for coming to our rescue - we find the vets here have not been helpful - they say there's nothing that could be done with his illness. Cody is a 13 years old and has so much personality and spunk. We are so sorry that you lost your dog - but it must be gratifying to help others. Your positive attitude is wonderful and has given us so much hope. We're getting used to the Bottom's Up Leash now and find it works best for us to hold it close to the body where we have more control. So, once again, thank you from the bottom's of our hearts." Ralph & Terri, NY
"Got the leash today - it is exactly what we've been looking for! Our german shepherd is recovering from back surgery to repair a ruptured disk, and is just now starting to put weight on his hind legs and walk with some support from us. The walkabout harness I purchased though it did the job was an absolute ordeal to get him in an out of (he's 115 lbs of semi-paralyzed dog at the moment) and it kind of hindered his ability to walk naturally. This harness is breeze to put on, and because there's not a lot of material wrapped around his body he can walk more naturally. I noticed this difference the first time I used it with Boomer -- it was the longest walk we were able to take since the surgery. Thanks!" Toni M. -- Pitman, NJ
"I can't tell you what a difference the leash makes. I was finally able to get Cody in and out of the house by myself... without him urinating on me or himself. You guys have a really excellent product. My vet is using a canvas wood carrier that's been modified a bit. It isn't nearly as effective as the leash. Have you marketed this at trade shows? There is such a great demand out there and I'm surprised at how many people are unaware the leash exists. Anyway, thanks for all of your help. Cody is going for acupuncture tomorrow for his ruptured disc. He has regained feeling in his legs, but just can't support himself. We're hoping for the best. You guys are lifesavers." "Thank you for contacting me. I used the leash because my lab had degenerative disc disease in her lower back. Unfortunately, it got worse and she had to be put to sleep in March. Your product definitely gave us several months that we would not have had otherwise. Thank you very much. A member of the bouvier list I belong to mentioned your product. I saved his reference because of the age of our Bouvier (13+) and can now use it. I did review other similar products but was attracted to "BottomsUpLeash" because: 1) it seats underneath the pelvis and not around the chest or waist and our dog (as I presume most other elderly dogs) needs hindquarter support, not otal body support, 2) ease of on/off, and 3) the cost is quite reasonable especially considering that realistically, our dog is in the twilight of her life." Gail -- USA
"Your dog Watson must be smiling in doggie heaven knowing what he has done on Earth for all of these animals." Stan Lee -- San Francisco, CA
"Just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our leash. We are able to take our dog, whom we may soon lose to cancer, on walks, which wouldn't be possible without the support we can give him with the leash. We are so pleased to be able to help him enjoy what may be his last days. We used the leash on a visit to our dog's surgeon. The vet was impressed with the leash's design and asked us to bring her ordering information so that she could pass it on to her other clients. She thought the leash was a great idea, and said that she much prefers supporting the dog at the hind legs rather than under the belly (the way we used to support our dog with a rolled-up towel). Thanks so much!" Amanda Sumner -- USA
"Seldom do I lobby for new products so you know this is a WONDERFUL product! I only wish it had been around during the last year of my little dog's life. Owners of senior pets and pets with arthritis and hip related conditions will be thrilled to know a product like this exists." Beth -- USA
"Although I'm not in need of your leash (yet), I feel I must commend you for creating a product that could be a godsend to many folks. My springer is starting to develop arthritis in his hips. I don't think we are ready for the leash at this time, but I will certainly bookmark your website so I can return to it in the future. Thanks for such a great idea." Wally D. -- USA
"I would just like to let you know that the Bottom's Up Leash has made my life, and more importantly my dog's life, a lot better." Billy Stein -- White Plains, NY
"The Bottoms Up Leash has given my arthritic Chow a new lease on life. He was unable to go on walks since he could not go but a few steps without collapsing and falling down due to the pain. Now he is proudly walking and enjoying life again since he has the leash. (At first he was reluctant to try it...but after the first walk with it he is now ready to go when he sees the leash.) He has regained his confidence. What a wonderful invention. Thanks. I have told several people about it for their older dogs."
Brenda -- Charlotte, North Carolina
"About a month ago my dog was struck by a car. My Vet and I tried using Meds on our dog and even accupunture -- nothing seemed to work. We bought a leash and our dog is now walking on his own. We love our leash!" Sam -- Las Vegas, NV
"What a great idea! I've got a 14 yr old with terrible arthritis and strokes which have weakened his back-end. I was toying with the idea of a doggie wheelchair, but he's not really ready for that. We go on long walks and I was so afraid that someday he would not be able to get back. He weighs almost 60lbs, so I didn't look forward to carrying him. With this leash we can probably go back to the beach. I can always hook him up for the walk back up." Linda M. -- San Francisco, CA
"This is the greatest idea I have seen in a long time! I'm bookmarking your site in case my dog Sherman gets arthritis." Dave M. -- Miami, FL
"Thanks for your prompt reply. You really have a unique and needed product. Good Luck with your business and again thanks for your product and prompt service." James O. -- Chandler, AZ
